Position: Assembly Support Technician
Reports To: Senior Operations Manager
The Assembly Support Technician – Lockwire / Prepare-to-Paint & Prepare-to-Ship is responsible for performing all final preparation and support functions on completed hydraulic aerospace assemblies. The primary focus of this position is the application of lockwire and safety cable in accordance with engineering drawings and aerospace standards to ensure the integrity and safety of flight-critical hardware.
In addition to lock wiring, this position supports both pre-painting and post-painting processes, including cleaning, potting, marking, flushing, and final readiness for inspection or shipment. This role bridges the final stages of production, ensuring each unit meets Arkwin’s quality, cleanliness, and configuration standards before delivery.
Primary Functions:
Lockwire and Safety Cable:
- Perform lockwire and safety cable installation on hydraulic assemblies, actuators, and subassemblies following detailed engineering drawings and specifications
- Verify correct torque values, direction of pull, and security of fasteners after lock wiring.
- Ensure consistent wire routing, twist rates, and proper termination to meet aerospace quality requirements.
- Maintain a high level of workmanship, traceability, and documentation accuracy.
Prepare-to-Paint Duties
- Clean and degrease components after assembly and test using approved solvents and processes.
- Apply potting sealants, masking, and protective coverings per specification prior to painting.
- Verify assembly configuration and completeness before transferring to the Paint Department.
- Coordinate with paint personnel to ensure smooth hardware flow and accurate part tracking.
Prepare-to-Ship / Post-Paint Duties:
- Remove masking and inspect painted assemblies for coverage and quality.
- Install nameplates, decals, and ink-stamp markings per engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform rod-end adjustments, final stroke verification, and flushing with preservative oil to ensure internal cleanliness and corrosion protection.
- Confirm that all assemblies meet visual, dimensional, and cleanliness standards before submitting to final inspection.
- Complete all documentation accurately, including travelers, routers, and inspection readiness forms.
General Responsibilities:
- Follow detailed work instructions, process sheets, and blueprints accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Adhere to company safety policies and AS9100/FAA quality system requirements.
- Support coordination between Assembly, Paint, and Quality teams to maintain production flow and delivery schedules.
- Identify and communicate potential process improvements or nonconformances.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade school preferred).
- Experience in aerospace assembly, lockwire/safety cable installation, or mechanical assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and torque charts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and fine motor skills for precision work.
- Familiarity with hand tools, torque wrenches, and wire installation tools.
- Ability to work with solvents, sealants, and preservative oils.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
