Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, leadership, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through direct reports:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, work flow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Selects manufacturing equipment and tooling
  • Prepares cost estimates for equipment and tooling by studying blueprints/drawings, and related customer documentation; consults with engineers and other professional and technical personnel for manufacturing input.
  • Determines improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, supplies, materials and processes
  • Directs and coordinates the planning and completion of manufacturing and engineering projects
  • Reviews engineering change notices with staff and analyzes for implementation impact
  • Supports everyday operations on a daily basis in a manufacturing and machine shop environment. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Good communications skills – able to relate well to factory personnel, engineers and customers
  • Supports root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Direct reports include but are not limited to: Methods Engineers, Tool Designers, Programmers and Toolmakers.
  • Additional work hours in excess of normal business hours may be necessary to perform essential job functions. This includes extra efforts required for infrequent or short duration.
  • Travel may be required via any mode of transportation for business reasons such as, but not limited to, skill development, training, or a company business event.

Training and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a machining environment
  • Proficient in use of computers with  emphasis on MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
  • Proficient working within an ERP system (Visual Manufacturing by Infor (VM) a plus)
  • Experience with CAD software SolidEdge
  • Experience with CNC Programming
  • ISO 9001 and AS9100 experience a plus

Physical Demands:  The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

Visual Acuity:  Accommodation as required for reading computer screens and documents.

Hearing Ability:  No special requirements.

Working Conditions:  Normally works in an office environment, but may also be subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid
